This artwork reflects upon the distance of the gaze. It builds upon the genre of landscape as a human construct that is resultant from the gaze, thus distinct from nature. The artwork consists of three handscrolls with digitally manipulated photographic compositions, exploring the poetics of mountain and water expanse. During the Song dynasty China, painting theorist Kuo Hsi and Han Zhuo speaks of distances that pertains to the height, vastness, as well as elusiveness and bewilderment in landscape paintings. What could farness mean to us today? Or are we bound by a rational perspective and vocabulary?
